FROM HAZARD TO HOME

The Summit County Land Bank(SCLB) has gotten the year off to a productive start with the completion of the first in a long line of home restorations.

The house, situated on Kilgore, arguably has major curb appeal, but that’s a far cry from how SCLB found the home back in 2019. Just a short time ago, the house had been swallowed up by overgrowth and taken back by nature. But now—after a lengthy renovation process—the once blighted house is completely transformed and livable again.

There’s no question that restoring blighted houses strengthens neighborhoods and communities. It helps to reduce crime by providing safe housing for families to thrive. It also helps increase property values by removing an eyesore off the market and replacing it with something that can increase a neighborhood's safety and overall value.
